Cooking with Honey

Many generations of Australian households have enjoyed the delicious taste of Capilano Honey but often consumers don't realise how versatile honey is. Cherished childhood memories of drizzling Capilano Honey over warm, toasted crumpets and hot porridge are the most commonly recalled uses for honey, but these days honey is becoming more popular as an ingredient in exciting meal creations. With five different Capilano Honey varieties available, there is a perfect honey to create the perfect flavour for your favourite meals.

Capilano Honey is such a natural product – there is no fat and no additives – it is simply collected by Australian beekeepers and bottled into convenient packs that make cooking a breeze. Capilano Honey can blend up some amazing new flavours for baked sweets, sauces, marinades, stirfrys and dressings.

Honey is also a healthy alternative to sugar, so why not try honey in your next cup of tea or coffee by substituting sugar with approximately half the amount of honey. For example 2 teaspoons of sugar = 1 teaspoon of honey.

Honey Cooking Tips

  • When measuring honey, dip the spoon in hot water first and the honey then slides off easily.
  • As a general rule, use light coloured honey for white cakes, biscuits and dressings. Use darker honey for a stronger flavour in marinades, sauces and rich desserts.
  • Cakes and biscuits made with honey are noted for their keeping qualities. The ability of honey to absorb and retain moisture retards the drying out and staling of baked foods.
  • Honey helps baked foods to stay soft and in some instances improves the texture and flavour of food.
  • Always keep honey in a dry place – not in the refrigerator.
